Wiz KhalifaWiz Khalifa otherwise known as Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was born on September 8th, 1987 to the parents who were in the military. He was born in Minot, North Dakota. When at the young age of two, he and his parents moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Because of his family ties to the military, he moved around often. In the last decade alone, he lived in such places as Germany, England and Japan, as well as in the United States.

Wiz Khalifa was majorly influenced by such artists as Jay-Z, Cam’Ron and The Notorious B.I.G. The name of Khalifa has been derived out of Arabic as Successor and in the word Wisdom which at the age of 15, was shortened to Wiz.

In 2005, Wiz Khalifa released his mixtape which contained “Prince of the City; Welcome to Pistolvania”. The tape had sold to thousands which then caused a release of a full album to be released in 2006. His debut album Show and Prove caused him to be a recorded artist to keep your eyes on, which then got him in the “Rolling Stone” Magazine as being said as a artist to watch.

It wasn’t until 2007, that Khalifa was signed onto the label of Warner Bros. He then released 2 mixtapes under the label of Rostrum Records. The “Grow Season” mixtape was hosted from DJ Green Lantern and was released on the fourth of July 2007. The “Prince of City 2″ was then released November 20,2007.

The actual debut of his first single from Warner Bros. was released as “Say Yeah” and reached the top 25 on Billboard Top 40 Rhythmic charts and on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks as number 20. It contains the samples of the 1999 single “Better off Alone” by Alice DeeJay.

It wasn’t until July 2009 that he announced his departure with Warner Bros after several attempts to release his album. It was during the show with Girl Talk and other such artists as Modey Lemon and Donora. Also attending and performing were Grand Buffet and Don Caballero. They performed at the Amphitheater of Pittsburgh. It was then that he announced that he and Warner Bros were no longer together.

Wiz Khalifa continued to work with Rostrum Records however. He then released his single of “Teach You To Fly” and the mixtape of “How Fly”. He then went onto collaborate with Curren$y who is from New Orleans. He then went onto show another side of him with his mixtape mixing it up between singing and rapping. After this he went onto open for Wu Tang Clan member U God. This took place at the 2009 CMJ Music Marathon where such artists as Beyonce performed “Diva” and “Best I Ever Had” by Drake.

Wiz Khalifa then went on to release his second album on November 24, 2009 and was titled as “Deal or No Deal”. This was released under the independent recording artist category. You will be able to listen to more of his music through such online internet sources as YouTube and UStream. He has released over 50 songs on 3 mixtapes in the year 2009. With the release of his album “Deal or No Deal” he ranked at the number 2 position on the internet music website of iTunes and was said to have passed by Jay-Z and 50 Cent.
